One of my first day assignments included a portrait of Jamie Metzger, fresh out of the Sheridan College animation program who landed a prized position at Pixar. Record reporter, Michael DeRuyter interviewed her while I poked around the family home for a nice location. Finding her childhood hobby horse in the backyard pulled it all together.

My first assignment was covering former Canadian chief of defence General Rick Hillier’s chat about leadership at the annual Waterloo Region home builders association luncheon. My photo ops consisted of Hillier eating and Hillier speaking.


Before Hillier appeared at the podium, I tested the light and angles. Below, Canadian Home Builder’s Association President Vince LaBerge addresses the luncheon guests.

And I just thought I’d throw this in too. It was a nice introduction to the readership from Record editor, Lynn Haddrall. My goofy new haircut, third from left, included.
